GROUT

Features

Applications

  • Fill in the spaces left by the ceramic tiles (setting joints), promoting the water-proofing of the coating.
  • It may be used in ceramic pieces, tiles and natural stones.
  • It may be used in joints 3 to 13 mm wide.

Preparation

One must follow the packaging recommendations with respect to the amount of water to be added. Preferably one must use the mortar box and mechanical mixer.

Grout Applications

  • Initiation: 3 days after the setting of the ceramic coating.
  • Before the application of grout mortar, the joints must be clean, free from powder, loose particles, mortar remains and other conditions which might prejudice the bonding strength.
  • Dampen the joints and borders of the ceramic before filling joints, to assist the hydration of cement. In porous ceramics, hot days or with low relative humidity of air, dampen abundantly. This procedure will avoid the scattering of the product.
  • The grout must be prepared in a mortar box with mechanical mixer. The anhydrous material must be mixed with clean water, in the proportions shown in the packaging, obtaining a mortar without air pockets, pasty and bonding.
  • Rest time: after the preparation, the mortar must rest for 10 minutes, so that the additives react, and must be mixed again before using.
  • Working time: the use of mortar must occur over a maximum time of 2 hours and 30 minutes after its preparation. During this time, do not add water or any other substance. After this time, the mortar must be discarded.
  • Apply the grout mortar with the rubber finish trowel, executing continuous movements of to-and-from diagonally to the joints, and the do the finish with a plastic hose or similar, so as to obtain an integral grout, without weak points and homogeneous coloring.
  • Leave the grout to dry for 15 to 30 minutes and make a coating cleaning with a clean and humid soft sponge. Finish the cleaning with a clean and dry cloth or burlap. Do not carry out the cleaning with excess water in the sponge, because it might carry out a superficial washing of the pigment, provoking stains. Never use acids.
  • On floors, the clearance for normal traffic will occur in 7 days and for heavy traffic in 28 days.
